As most of you know, the 2009 free agent signing period will begin at 12:01 AM New York time, which is 10:01 PM for the Mile High City and 11:01 for the Central time zone.
The Broncos won’t waste any time, and Brian Xanders and Josh McDaniels are most likely meeting as we speak to develop the attack plan for the UFA market.
Top targets figure to be defensive lineman, cornerbacks, and safeties. Igor Olshansky, Chris Canty, Bryant McFadden, Ron Bartell, Derrick Ward, and James Sanders are some of the names mentioned as possible targets. Only time will tell.
Here we go!

As Tanner reported earlier, D.J. Hackett has been released by the Carolina Panthers. He was signed by the Panthers prior to last season in the hope that he might be a strong third option behind all-star Steve Smith and fan favorite Muhsin Muhammad.
He did not live up to the expectations put on him by Carolina, however he was a solid player with the Seahawks. For the Broncos, he could be an option to add depth at the wide receiver position.
Behind superstar Brandon Marshall and soon-to-be superstar Eddie Royal, the Broncos have Brandon Stokley, who is very sure-handed, but is getting on in years and has been injured more often. He will be back with the team for at least one more year.
Since the Broncos currently only have four receivers on the depth chart, D.J. Hackett might be a good free agent signing. If Brian Xanders is able to work a one or two year deal for a good price, there is no reason why Hackett would not be a good addition to the offense that seems destined to be #1 in the NFL in 2009.
