Cutler to Cleveland? I Hate to Say it, but it Makes Sense

brady-quinnshaun-rogersThere is now a new rumor connected to Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler.  It was reported on ProFootballTalk.com that Jay Cutler had asked for a trade upon the firing of quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates, and that the Broncos were actively pursuing talks to acquire quarterback Matt Cassel.

“I’m upset,” Jay Cutler told The Denver Post. “I mean, I’m really shocked at this point.”

We’re all shocked Jay, especially at the way you have reacted.  Cutler’s “shocked attitude has since turned into an apparent hatred toward the organization, and he has turned his back on trying to fix the problem.  Cutler has publicly stated he has declined an invitation to sit down with Denver officials and work things out.

So, the question arises:  Should the Broncos give Cutler what he wants, or wait this out with him and make him happy?

An interesting trade wind blew across my screen just recently.  It came from BroncosFreaks.com, and is the first trade offer I think any Broncos fan could respect in any way.

Initially, the offer was that Denver would send Cutler to Tampa Bay in exchange for a first round pick, which would subsequently be sent to the Patriots for Matt Cassel.

Quite frankly, that is one of the most unfair and dumb trade offers I have ever heard of.  A first round pick and a franchise quarterback in exchange for a guy who has started 15 games since high school?  Get real!

The newest rumor involves the Cleveland Browns, who if they are willing to part with one key piece could be an intriguing trade partner with the Denver Broncos.  The proposed deal is that the Broncos would send Jay Cutler and a third round pick to the Browns for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers and quarterback Brady Quinn.  The Browns have been rumored to be willing to trade Derek Anderson, but this is the first I have heard of Brady Quinn.

The reason this is interesting is that Denver could potentially get their hands on a third year quarterback who may have a breakout season, and a lynchpin to build their defense around for the next 8-10 years.  Cutler clearly doesn’t want to be in Denver, and if this trade opportunity presents itself the Broncos will have a hard time not pondering it.

I want to make it very clear, I don’t condone the trading of Jay Cutler one bit, as I love him as a player.  However, if there is no way to get him back to Denver with a genuine smile on his face and desire to win the Lombardi Trophy with the Broncos, it could be time for us all to move on.

Hey glad to see there is another Broncos Blog on Sports Blog Net!!! For the Browns trade, most times I would totally ignore and hate this trade but I am a Notre Dame Fan so I could almost take this. I don’t want it but if we got Shaun Rogers and there is no way to get him back, I like this.

Thanks Garrett! I’m glad to be a part of this stuff, it’s a lot of fun!

I could get on board with this too, but I am just getting confirmation that Cutler is going nowhere. Again, this could change, but I’m reading now that he will not be traded.
